「Wind Vane of Nobel Prize」A New List of Sloan Research Fellowships; The AnnouncemeTime of 2024 Nobel Prize has been determined!Recently, Sloan Research Fellowships, having a reputation for being the “Wind Vane of Nobel Prize”, announced the latest list of 2024 recipients, a total of 126 scholars selected. Recipients receive a prize of $75,000, which may be spent over a two-year term on any research-related expense.
Sloan Research Fellowship, established in 1955, is awarded annually by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, with the purpose of providing support and recognition to scientists and scholars in the fields of physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, etc.
According to the preliminary statistics of CNUR, there are 29 Chinese in the recipients, decreased by 1 compared to 2023. Most Chinese recipients, 9 in total, are devoted to the field of physics, followed by computer science and chemistry (7 recipients each), mathematics (4 recipients), and Earth system science and neuroscience (1 recipient each).
Brief introduction of part of Chinese selected recipients
Wenjing Wang is now a research assistant professor in University of Michigan, who was an undergraduate at Xiamen University, acquired Ph.D. at Michigan State University, and conducted postdoctoral work first at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and then at Stanford University.
Wang joined the U-M Life Sciences Institute (LSI) and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan in 2018. Her lab at the LSI has an overarching goal of designing novel molecular tools with widespread utilities across the subfields of cell biology and neuroscience to facilitate biological studies. Cutting-edge protein engineering methods will be utilized to optimize the overall performance of the tools and the tools are validated in yeast cell cultures, mammalian cell cultures, neuronal cultures and animal models.
Xiao Wang is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at MIT. Wang received her B.S. in Chemistry and Molecular Engineering from Peking University and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. She conducted postdoctoral work at Stanford University from 2015 to 2019.
Xiao Wang is a core institute member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. She started her lab in 2019 to develop and apply new chemical, biophysical, and genomic tools to better understand tissue function and dysfunction at the molecular level. Wang joined the MIT and Broad after conducting postdoctoral research in Department of Bioengineering, Stanford University with Professor Karl Deisseroth, where she was a fellow of the Life Sciences Research Foundation.
Xin Yan is an assistant professor in Texas A&M University, who serially received M.S. and Ph.D. at Purdue University in 2011 and 2015, and then conducted postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University. Her research combines expertise in mass spectrometry, microdroplet chemistry, electrochemistry, and biology to develop novel approaches for disease diagnosis, structural lipidomics, and accelerated electrochemical reactions.
The Announcement Time of 2024 Nobel Prize has been determined!
